Get learner driver insurance

Car insurance for learner drivers
The Driving Standards Agency (DSA) responsible for overseeing the driving tests recommends additional private practice to help new drivers gain experience and have a better chance of passing the driving test.
DSA’s information can be found at www.direct.gov.uk/Motoring.
There are two options for car insurance for learner drivers:
Option 1: Be added as an additional driver on the owners insurance policy. Not only may this be very expensive, but in the event of a claim it may also effect the policy holders no-claims bonus discount.
Option 2: Get special provisional driver insurance. Specialist car insurance for learner drivers costs around £3 per day and allows you to learn to drive in any car worth up to £20,000 (and up to Insurance Groups 15/16) without risk to the car owners’ insurance.
Collingwood Learners and ProvisionalMarmalade both specialise in cheap car insurance for learner drivers for around £3 per day. Rates and terms may vary according to where you live. Follow these links to get quotes and immediate cover:

Rules for the supervising driver
Remember – in the UK your supervising driver must:
- be over 21
- have a current relevant licence
- have been driving for at least three years
- always be fit to drive if required.
Note. You should check terms and conditions for learner driver insurance policies which may have additional requirements.
What happens to learner insurance when you pass your test?
When you pass your practical test the learner driver insurance policy normally covers you for your return trip from the test centre to where your car is normally kept (you may be able to claim a refund for unused days – check your policy document). Your learner policy does not cover you for normal use and you will need to get insurance.

Good Luck!

Just insured my son with Provisional Marmalade. Pretty straight forward. Note the policy cover is for any ONE car £90 for 30 days (change once for £10). ANY supervising driver over 25.
My own insurance company wanted a small fortune for the same cover.
Time to go practise now – where are those tranquillisers
